Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology tape is an adhesive and stretchy athletic tape that is applied to help reduce inflammation, improve blood flow, support muscles and joints, and encourage stretch or contraction of muscles. There are very sensitive receptors that live within the skin of the horse called the hair root plexus. This is a group of nerve fiber endings that live around the base of the hair follicle. By influencing these nerve endings, they are able to feed back to receptors within the muscles. Kinesiology tape is applied with some degree of stretch which lifts the tissues and allows muscle relaxation, improved healing by allowing blood flow to the region and lymph drainage. Almost all applications can remain in placed during training as this will not reduce any range of motion.

When to use kinesiology tape?

  • Sore tight muscles, tightened and/or rigid fascia

  • Muscle support for horses in rigorous training to help quicken recovery

  • Help improve blood flow and lymph drainage after an injury

  • Help reduce edema in a region

  • Decompression of the spine from disease processes such as kissing spine

  • Support joints during recovery or throughout training
